WW1 Battlefields – France

Posted on

Whilst solemn in nature, touring the memorials and cemeteries of the WW1 battlefields brought out the history buff in me.  It is something to be standing at an Australian memorial in Le Hamel gazing out at the location where the Red Baron was shot down some 100 years prior or standing in the Canadian trenches of Vimy ridge as they were on the day armistice was declared.

While I am sure there are tours available from many of the surrounding French cities we found it an easy drive to tootle along at our own pace.  However be warned that in wet weather some of the minor roads can get quite muddy as they are heavily trafficked by farm vehicles as well as the crowds around Anzac day.
